Rouzer Caught on Tape Lying About Role in Amnesty for Illegals
During a videotaped congressional candidate forum held at WECT/NBC studios in Wilmington on April 2, State Senator David Rouzer was caught not telling the truth to the voters of the 7th district about his support for amnesty and his paid lobbying in support of amnesty for illegal aliens.
After 10 minutes of squirming on an issue that Pantano has been questioning him on for 6 months, the Senator finally came clean: “Yes,” Rouzer admitted, he had lobbied for Amnesty for illegal aliens. After continued pressing by Pantano and event moderator, WECT News reporter Jon Evans, Rouzer went on to confess that he had been paid thousands to lobby for amnesty for illegal aliens, even commenting that he had not been paid “enough.” See video here: http://www.wect.com/story/17336362/pantano-presses-rouzer-on-lobbying-for-amnesty-in-wect-debate.
Conservative GOP Candidate Ilario Pantano, an Author businessman and veteran of two wars has been consistent in challenging Rouzer on the issue of Amnesty. Pantano published his research, including Federal lobbying documents at a website he started in November 2011 called www.RouzerForAmnesty.com.
While Pantano pursued the truth for the past 6 months, Senator Rouzer, a 20-year Washington insider and lobbyist denied the claims.
It seems we have finally gotten to the truth:
1) Rouzer indeed was paid money to lobby for amnesty illegal aliens, a position that hurts the conservative movement.
2) Pantano was correct in calling out the Senator for an obvious ethical lapse given that it betrays the conservative cause the Senator supposedly supports.
3) Rouzer spent 6 months, denying evading and fundamentally not telling the truth about an issue that reflects on his professional and political judgment and ethics (2 examples of the Senator evasions are linked below).
Ilario Pantano issued the following statement:
“State Senator David Rouzer has had six months to come clean and tell the voters the truth. Instead he chose to evade, spin, and in some cases, outright lie. That is unacceptable. This is not a personal attack against a nice man who might have made a simple mistake; this is a question of character and the use of government power for profit.”
“Senator Rouzer had spent more then a decade in Washington accumulating contacts and favors, while being paid by our tax dollars. Then Senator Rouzer, converted those contacts and that public trust into cash by becoming a lobbyist on issues that conservatives reject, like Amnesty. Senator Rouzer betrayed his party and the conservative movement for what? For a pay check? The only thing worse than that is not telling the truth. The Senator owes the voters of the seventh district an apology.”
“It is one thing to betray the conservative cause for a pay check, but it is quite another to not be honest about it. This speaks to judgment, character, and integrity. This is a multiyear professional decision to take the power and influence amassed while supposedly serving the people, and converting it to private wealth, The voters of the 7th district reject that and I reject that.”
“Once caught on tape, after finally admitting something that he had denied for 6 months, and then tried to run from for more then 10 minutes in the video. The Senator’s tepid response was that he was “seeking a solution”. “What’s my solution?” Senator Rouzer angrily shot at me.”
“My Solution, Senator, is to tell the truth even when it hurts.”
