Wilmington, NC:  The Pantano Campaign learned from a CQ Roll Call report earlier this week that the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has decided to begin running television advertisements in North Carolina’s 7th Congressional District in support of Ilario Pantano .

“Congressman McIntyre is in real trouble, and that the race for the 7th Congressional District has turned into a battleground race.” Pantano Campaign Manager Andy Yates said after learning of the ad buy North Carolina’s 7th Congressional District is one of only 47 Congressional Districts around the country where the NRCC has committed to airing television advertising.  It is the only Congressional District in North Carolina that the NRCC is targeting with an advertising buy at this time.  CQ Roll Call, in their report, speculated that the ads would likely focus on Congressman McIntyre’s support for the stimulus.

“The NRCC’s decision to target Congressman McIntyre for defeat by airing TV ads across the district is proof that NRCC has recognized that McIntyre is one of Congress’s most vulnerable incumbents,” Yates concluded. “McIntyre is out of touch with the district.  He claims to be an independent voice, but when he’s in Washington he’s a strong supporter of the Pelosi agenda.  Republicans, Democrats and Unaffiliated voters across the District are rejecting McIntyre and embracing Ilario and our campaign.”

The past week has been a week of significant achievements for the Pantano Campaign.  On Friday, the Campaign released new poll numbers from Public Opinion Strategies showing that Pantano leads Congressman McIntyre by 7 points (48% to 41%) with most likely voters.  Then on Monday, Pantano appeared on the “Hannity” show on Fox News where Sean Hannity expressed his support for the campaign by telling Pantano “You belong in Congress!”  Also on Monday, the NRCC recognized all of the success the Pantano Campaign has been having by moving Pantano up to “Contender” status in their Young Guns Program.
